about methods & madness

Methods & Madness is the umbrella for the projects of chef Tessa Liebman in Brooklyn, New York. From small dinners to larger catered events, production of workshops and experiences that engage the senses through our eyes nose taste touch sounds.

about tessa:

Tessa has been cooking in her hometown of New York City for over fifteen years. She is a caterer, private chef, content and event producer specializing in conceptual, multisensory interactive (dining) experiences. Alongside catering and private client events, she created the ticketed dinner series Methods & Madness working with artists translating their work into edible experiences and the conceptual food and fragrance project, Scents of Plates. She has also led several workshops on food, the senses and storytelling.

catering & events:

Methods & Madness loves to see people coming together to celebrate. We can help you with all that you need to make it as effortless as can be. Our food is delicious, eclectic and thoughtfully sourced, working with the seasons and our farmer friends to find the best things to feed you with minimum waste and maximum joy.

scents of plates:

Scents of Plates is a project that explores the human senses through food and fragrance translating stories, ideas and memories from one sense to the other. Through 2020 it has existed through in-person events and has continued since with the launch of Multisensory Experience Kits in 2020 to be enjoyed at home. These kits center around a concept or category of smells (smoke, the lack of vocabulary for smell words, petrichor, etc) and contain edible and scented elements as well as a themed playlist, background on the items included, journal prompts and activity suggestions for further exploration.

methods and madness dinner series:

"Dinner with my Creative Crushes" is how Tessa describes the Methods & Madness dinner series. She started the dinners in New York as a way for her as a chef to collaborate with creative friends outside of the kitchen. Tessa has worked with typographers, collage artists, illustrators, perfumers, baristas, foragers and printmakers to produce intimate, often interactive dinners with menus informed by the artists’ processes (their “methods”) and inspiration (their “madness”).

A special limited-edition artwork is produced for diners to bring home after the meal.
